Enquire Today →TuteClass has rolled out a series of updates to its Tuition Module, adding online payments, protected Zoom links, and new search filters for parents.
The platform reports more than 10,000 active users and over 1,000 verified teachers. Search options now cover grade, subject, language medium, learning mode, and district. Teacher profiles go through a manual review before being listed. Qualifications and experience are shown where teachers have provided them. Parents can also read reviews from other students and families. The average teacher rating on the platform currently sits at 4.8 stars.
For tutors, the new tools are fairly straightforward. Protected Zoom links can be generated from a teacher's own profile, which removes the need to share class links through WhatsApp every week. TuteClass also promotes listed classes to its Facebook audience of more than 10,000 people without charging extra. Tutors who want help with promotional designs can request them through WhatsApp.
A company spokesperson said the changes came from listening to both parents and tutors.
"Parents kept telling us it was hard to compare tutors properly," the spokesperson said. "Teachers said they were using too many separate tools just to run one class. So we built what they asked for."
Online payments are now live as well. Parents can pay monthly tuition fees using credit or debit cards instead of cash or bank transfers. For recurring monthly payments, this makes things simpler, especially for families managing tuition for more than one child or for students studying online with teachers in other districts.
TuteClass supports both physical and online classes. Teachers can set up profiles with their subjects, experience, teaching format, and available classes. Students can filter by district and language medium, which helps families find teachers who teach in Sinhala, Tamil or English depending on their preference.
These filters matter in practice. A parent in Matara looking for a Sinhala-medium maths teacher for Grade 9 can narrow results without scrolling through irrelevant profiles. A student in Jaffna can take classes from a teacher in Colombo without leaving home. That kind of access wasn't common even a few years ago, but online tuition has made it possible.
The company hasn't released figures on how many tutors use the platform on a monthly basis. Still, the published numbers suggest the service is gaining traction among both teachers and families. TuteClass has said more updates are planned.
