Yellow House Productions launches Whose™, a free game that teaches Sri Lankans who owns what in creative work

Yellow House Productions (Pvt) Ltd today launched Whose™, a free online game that teaches Sri Lankans the basics of intellectual property. It is available now at whosegame.art, with no account needed.

Whose™ was developed with Linseed (Pvt) Ltd, with in-kind assistance from the Foundation of Goodness. Nanotek is the official technology partner of Yellow House Productions.

Whose™ turns ownership questions into short, playable cases. Who owns a song when six people helped make it? Can a photo found online go on a shop poster? Does a wedding band need a licence? Players make the call first. Then they see the reasoning.

The game launches with 25 cases across music, photography, publishing, licence agreements, trademarks and traditional knowledge. Each is grounded in Sri Lanka's Intellectual Property Act, No. 36 of 2003. Notes cover WIPO treaties and other countries' practice. New games will be added until the game covers the full field of intellectual property.

Whose™ is educational only and is not legal advice. Sinhala and Tamil versions are in preparation.

Hasitha Jayathilaka, Founder and CEO of Yellow House Productions and co-designer of Whose™, said: "Most creative disputes in Sri Lanka don't start with bad intentions. They start with a handshake, a missing split sheet or a licence nobody read. These 25 games are only the beginning. We will keep adding games until anyone can learn the whole field, for free."

Jayathilaka also wrote the ARRA Framework (arraframework.org), an ethical framework for creative and cultural work. He proposed PRA, Printing Right Attribution (printingrightattribution.org), a licensing framework for the lawful reprinting of unavailable books.

Prabha Hewage, Co-founder and Creative Director of Yellow House Productions and co-designer of Whose™, said: "Legal ideas often feel distant. We set every case in places people know: a recording session, a wedding hall, a family kitchen, a market stall. When people live through the story, they remember the lesson."

Kushil Gunasekera, Founder of the Foundation of Goodness, said: "Knowledge should never be a privilege. Young people across Sri Lanka create music, art and businesses every day, yet few know how to protect what they make. Whose™ opens that knowledge to everyone, and we are glad to support its journey and promote this new concept."
