SMB Finance PLC through one of its innovative corporate social responsibility initiatives called “Light for Learning” aimed at empowering under privileged children in Sri Lanka, donated complete set of school supplies including school bags, lunch boxes, water bottles, school books, stationery and other essential school supplies to all children studying at Sri Gunananda Vidyalaya, Colombo 13.
SMB Finance PLC embraced the spirit of sustainability by sharing its prosperity to nurture the next generation by empowering young minds through education.
The concept of “Light for Learning” was initiated under the vision of Mr. Ravi Wijeratne, the Chairman of SMB Finance PLC in which the Company goes beyond maximizing shareholder wealth and share part of its prosperity with the future of Sri Lanka.
The event was warmly received by the students, parents and the academic staff. Speaking at the event, the Principal of Sri Gunananda Vidyalaya Mr. Samarasena Withana Pathirana remarked “This historic school was established in 1906 by the Prince Prisdang of Thailand, during his monkhood as Venerable Jinavaransa Thero in remembrance of Most Venerable Migettuwatte Gunananda Thero. Education is the cornerstone of a nation’s progress. We are happy to see a financial institution making a meaningful contribution that adds value to lives of many under privileged children in their academic journey”.
Addressing the event, the Executive Director/ Chief Executive Officer of SMB Finance PLC, Mr. Supul Wijesinghe stated “As a responsible financial institution in Sri Lanka, we believe our role extends beyond business — it includes giving back to society. This initiative of our Chairman reiterates the continuous commitment of SMB Finance PLC to empower young learners and create a lasting social value”.
Through the“Light for Learning”program,SMB Finance PLC aims to continue identifying schools and communities in need every year and contribute to the uplifting of their education standards.
