Imperial Blaze 2026 Concludes with Imperial College Crowned Overall Champions

Imperial Blaze 2026 concluded on September 6th after two weeks of competition across rugby, basketball, cricket and football. More than 20 universities took part, with Imperial College of Business Studies (ICBS) claiming the Overall Championship Shield.

Imperial swept the Cup category in rugby, finishing ahead of 1st Runner-up SLIIT and 2nd Runner-up ECU. In the Plate category, Curtin University took the title over SAB Campus, with BMS awarded Fair Play.

Basketball produced split results. Imperial finished 1st Runner-up in the women's category behind champions KDU, with SLIIT placing 2nd Runner-up. In the men's category, SLIIT took the title ahead of 1st Runner-up Curtin University and 2nd Runner-up Imperial. Curtin University also received the Fair Play Award.

Imperial claimed the cricket championship, finishing ahead of 1st Runner-up IIT and 2nd Runner-up ECU, with APIIT recognised for Fair Play.

Football saw ERP take the Cup title over 1st Runner-up SAB Campus and 2nd Runner-up SLIIT. In the Plate category, SLIIT City University were champions ahead of Plate Runner-up Imperial, with APIIT awarded Fair Play.

Across all disciplines, Imperial finished on top of the Overall Championship Shield with 325 points, ahead of 1st Runner-up SLIIT on 275 points and 2nd Runner-up Curtin University on 135 points. The shield was presented by Tharindu Wijewardane, Country Head at CIMA Sri Lanka.

Imperial Blaze 2026 also welcomed five Imperial students as Guests of Honour, all recognised as national-level athletes: Pawantha Weerasinghe, Mohamed Rifan, Simron Yoganathan, Sasindu Gajanayake and Nabeel Nizam. Having national-level players among its own students stands as a reminder that, at Imperial, excellence extends beyond the classroom.

Imperial College of Business Studies (ICBS) was established in 1985. The college offers business education in partnership with international institutions, with a focus on critical thinking, practical expertise and ethical leadership. ICBS prepares students for careers in business through industry-relevant programmes.
